Elizabeth McClellan

Just when Dorothy is getting ready to leave Oz, she says that the next time she goes looking for her hearts desire she'll go looking in her own backyard.

This summer I took my portable easel and paints with me as I visited several family members; painting a landscape of each backyard. When I returned I set up easels in my own backyard and continued to delight in the sensory experience of painting. I painted directly on the canvas abandoning my regular method of drawing and composing on paper first. I've discovered my hearts desire, it's in allowing myself the time to look ,smell, and live in the landscape.
